Sales. Most business owners dread it. However, according to Leigh Ashton, co-founder of the soon-to-launch online sales support platform Sasudi, getting motivated will give you the edge when it comes to getting more business.
Sasudi’s top five tips for getting and staying motivated to sell are:
Set yourself a big objective
Visualise your goal, then map out the steps you’ll need to take to win that customer over. It can take time, so don’t get disheartened if things don’t happen immediately. Every call is an opportunity to learn about the customer and personalise your pitch.
Think positive
Around 90 per cent of us find picking up the phone a challenge, so you’re not alone. However, negative thinking will affect your sharpness and focus. This is because our thoughts create our feelings – and these feelings drive the actions that dictate the results.
Get into rapport ASAP
As soon as you make contact with a prospect, make them comfortable with you. Use open questions (how? what? when?) to establish rapport. Most people love talking about their jobs, so let them – it’ll give you the information you need to suggest ways you can help.
Take something from every call
You won’t make a sale from every call, but you can take a step closer. You can also glean new information (remember: knowledge is power) and learn from each call to hone your developing sales technique. That said, when no means no, move on.
Leave the door open
So the client doesn’t need your product or service today. That doesn’t mean they won’t in the future. End the call on a high note, agree a time to renew contact and get the client’s permission to keep them updated about your business in the meantime.
