The Simple Step to Building Unshakable Confidence in Yourself

Any Change Can Rock Your Confidence

Whenever you are faced with making a potential change in your life that feels scary, whether that’s applying for a job, sharing a new idea on social media, or asking someone out on a date, there is something guaranteed to stop you in your tracks…The idea that you don’t have the confidence!

I’m going to call this out right now as a total myth! What you really mean is that you don’t trust yourself enough to have a go at the thing that would create confidence.

The Confidence Myth

We tend to believe that we have to be confident BEFORE we take action, but it is in the action that confidence is created. Confidence is the result of taking action to face your fears.

The problem is, the actions that would help you create confidence are often pretty risky. If facing your fear of speaking to a group means potentially losing your job, reputation or credibility if it goes badly, then you need to find a different way to face your fear that isn’t quite so high risk.

So I created a strategy to help my clients with this and it’s remarkably effective so I want to share it with you too.

The Game-changing Strategy for more Confidence

I call this strategy ‘Mapping Across’, it is a way for you to safely build trust in yourself and to gain compelling evidence that you can take action successfully.

Here is the single, simple step to mapping across and building confidence:

  • Take action in a ‘safe’ area of your life, one that isn’t risky if you fail, but that if you succeed, will provide proof that you can trust yourself to do the same thing in any area of your life. This will give your brain the data needed to show that you’ve already done this and therefore you can trust that taking action will have a successful outcome.

How to Make it Work

For example, when I wanted to create the confidence to take my business to the next level, I didn’t begin with making risky changes to the business, I took steps to make changes within myself first. I built up the trust. I did something that at first appears to be totally unrelated – I did the Couch to 5K running challenge!

Why this? Because I knew that to take my business to the next level required consistency and I doubted my ability to be more consistent. So I sought proof that I could be more consistent in some other area of my life, that was challenging but didn’t present the same level of risk to my mind.

I completed the Couch to 5K and got the proof I needed that I could trust myself to be consistent. This proof was then mapped across and I started to be consistent in areas of my business that previously I had avoided and as I trusted myself to take action, my confidence grew and the successes started coming thick and fast.

Give it a try! Here are a couple of questions to help you get started:

  • What could you do that would change the perception you have of yourself?
  • What ‘safe’ challenge would give you the proof you need so you can take the action that would build your confidence?
